Le projet RAINBOW développe une architecture d'applications réutilisables pour les offices de statistique et les communautés locales basée sur la technologie des objets distribués dans un environnement WWW. Le but consiste à assembler les applications à partir des mêmes éléments à la fois dans le domaine des statistiques officielles en permettant aux offices de statistique de comparer et d'harmoniser leurs données et dans le domaine des données géographiques en fournissant aux administrations locales et aux citoyens l'accès à des cartes reprenant des données officielles distribuées concernant leurs territoires.

Le projet RAINBOW fait partie du programme des applications télématiques de la DGXII de la Communauté Européenne (secteur Administrations). La participation des FUNDP concerne l'évaluation des fonctionnalités et des interfaces personne-système.

The RAINBOW project is designing an architecture of reusable applications for statistical offices and local communities based on distributed object technology in a WWW environment. The aim is to assemble applications from the same parts in Official Statistics to allow statistical offices to compare and harmonize their data and in Geographical Area Management to give the local communities access on maps to the distributed official data that concerns their territory.

The RAINBOW project belongs to the Telematics Applications programme of the DGXIII of the European Commission (Administrations Sector). The FUNDP participation concerns the evaluation of the functionalities and of the human-computer interface.
